In early 1970s Rome, fragile Clara (Penélope Cruz) found her one respite from the infidelity of her husband (Vincenzo Amato) and her own tempestuous moods in the company of her preteen Adri (Luana Giuliani), who identifies as a boy and finds acceptance as such in flirting with a new neighbor girl (Penélope Nieto Conti).
